Maruti Ritz, when launched, displayed a different design concept which Maruti employed into it. And the difference can be seen clearly at the rear where the half part of the car is vertically flat and the rest is bulging out. Some found it nice, and some said that it looks like it has been hit by an SUV from behind. I think most of us think that. Well, the Ritz is available both in petrol and diesel.
The petrol engine is a 1.2 L K series engine which produces a max power of 83.8 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque whereas the diesel engine is a 1.3 L DDiS engine which churns out 74 bhp of max power and a peak torque of 190 Nm. Both the engine variants gets an option of automatic gearbox and ABS as well (of course on the top end variants). The exteriors, as I already mentioned, are a bit odd, but it is not something which you can’t live with.
The big headlamps looks nice and so does the vertical tail lamps. The side view of the car is well designed as well. The interiors of the Ritz are pretty solid. The well cushioned seats are very comfortable and the 60:40 split option on the rear seats gives you more space for your luggage. The instrument cluster is well designed and shows you all the necessary information. Overall, the Ritz is a good small car which is fun to drive.
The Chevy Beat, on the other hand, is a car for the new generation. It does not only looks modern and futuristic but even in the inside the ‘young’ feeling does not fades away. The steering wheel feels sporty and the instrumental cluster is something which I really like about this car. It is completely different from all the cars available in this segment. It is compact but displays every necessary information. The blue illumination makes it even more sportier.
The Beat is available in 3 engine variants, petrol, diesel, and LPG. The petrol engine is a 1.2 L SmarTech Engine which generates 79.4 bhp of max power and a peak torque of 108 Nm whereas the diesel engine is a 1.0 L engine which produces only 57.6 bhp of max power and 150 Nm of max torque. Both the exteriors and the interiors of the car are very attractive and you wouldn’t complain about anything, except about the less power.
The Maruti Ritz is available at a price range of Rs 4.38 lacs to Rs 6.38 lacs (ex showroom New Delhi) whereas the Chevrolet Beat will cost you around Rs 3.94 lacs to Rs 6.01 lacs (ex showroom New Delhi). So, if you are looking for a decent looking car with a little bit of more power and you have a wife, then go for the Ritz. But if you have girlfriend and you want cool and funky looks and modern, sporty interiors and you’re ready to compromise a few horses for it, then the Chevy Beat will definitely be a great companion for you.
