Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the leading passenger car manufacturer in India is all set to reinstate its dominance on the Indian auto market. It is a known fact that the Indian auto market is diesel driven and a lot of global auto giants are venturing into the diesel car segment of India to gain handsome sales. Even Honda Cars, which did not have any diesel offerings for India has ventured into the diesel car segment with the launch of its Amaze sedan, followed by which it is planning to launch several other diesel models and variants.
Maruti Suzuki, being the leader in India, does not want to lag behind and is contemplating to launch 2 fresh diesel models by the end of the year 2014. According to the reports, the Japanese parent of the company, Suzuki Corp. is developing 2 new engines in its plant to be used in the cars for the Indian market. Thus, the Indo-Japanese company Maruti Suzuki is all set to get the advantage from the increasing demand for diesel cars in India and pump up the sales figures.
According to the reports, Suzuki Corp. is developing a 1 litre as well as a 1.4 litre diesel motors in the domestic plant of Japan that is specially meant for the cars to be developed for the Indian auto market.
The bigger 1.4 litre diesel oil burner could be used in a new diesel powered car that could be placed above the compact Maruti Suzuki DZire, which is one of the bestselling vehicles from Maruti in the Indian auto market.
At present, Maruti Suzuki gets the 1.3 litre multi-jet turbo diesel motors from Italian car manufacturer Fiat’s Indian branch, according to a deal that was signed between the two companies in January, 2012. As per this particular deal, Fiat India Automobiles is supposed to supply one lakh 1.3 litre multi-jet diesel engines to Maruti Suzuki for three years from 2012.
Apart from the deal with Fiat India and the diesel engines manufactured by the parent company Suzuki, Maruti is also investing around Rs 1,700 crore to build a new diesel engine factory at Gurgaon with a capacity to churn out three lakh units per year.
Maruti Suzuki has been witnessing a strong demand for its diesel vehicles in the Indian car market. Maruti has primarily seen a huge demand for the diesel Swift hatchback, Swift DZire sedan as well as the Ertiga multi-utility vehicle. Maruti Suzuki experienced a spurt in its diesel car demand especially after a steep rise in the prices of petrol, in the last 1 to 1 and half years.
Maruti Suzuki is thus, gearing up to produce a fleet of new diesel powered cars in India that will be targeted at the diesel lovers of India. This increased number of diesel powered models will certainly help Maruti Suzuki to boost its sales. Maruti Suzuki is thus; really busy producing the new stunners in the domestic car market.
